Must have 2 years' full-time experience in the operation of a boiler in this classification under an engineer holding a valid second class or first class license; or hold a valid third class license with at least 1 year's full-time actual experience in the operation of a boiler under this classification under an engineer holding a valid second or first class engineer.

Must have 3 years' full-time experience in the operation of a boiler in this classification under an engineer holding a first class license; must hold a valid second class license with at least 1 years full-time actual experience in the operation of a boiler in this classification under an engineer holding a valid first class license; or must hold a valid third class license with at least 2 year's full-time experience in the operation of a boiler under this classification under an engineer which a valid first class license.

There are no experience requirements. Must have at least 50 hours of experience with Traction Engines. Must also have attended and completed a steam school. The hours accrued during the steam school may be substituted for experience hours. Required for all classes of licensure.

Exams are administered at local Job Services. Applicants must be pre-approved prior to taking the examination. Enter a formal boiler training program from a trade school or community college and participate in a work-study program to help you get up to speed.
