If you have trouble such as the picture not displaying on the screen or the remote control not working, reset the TV with the following procedure. If the problem persists, try the factory reset procedure below. If a full reset restart of the TV is required If you have trouble such as the picture not displaying on the screen or the remote control not working, reset the TV with the following procedure.
Anyway, I tried it many times already. All I get is a message saying "Power Off. Shutting down I don't think this is a factory reset, it's more like restarting the OS similar to the way you restart your Android phone.
I wondering if it allows us to do factory reset while it is in setup mode. My case has been escalated to Sony Japan according to local service center because they have no idea why this can happen. Hi Ian, Yes, it isn't a factory reset although the person from support center said it is. It's more like a system restart. If I could do a hardware reset, I think the problem could be resolved.
I did some search but there isn't any information regarding how to do hardware reset by using a remote or power button, with my model. It probably wouldn't hurt to do the "hold up arrow button on the remote and press the power button on the back of the TV" as described in the Sony support video I found when searching. There were conflicting procedures, one said just to press the power button and the other said to press the power button until reset appeared on the TV screen, not sure what to make of that.
Oh, right, already tried. I would like to know the answer to this too. It has to be possible. I have the same model too but the 55 inch. Yes, it's just a reboot of the TV. Don't forget to check how to re-initialize the ToughPad remote if you do manage to do a Factory Default reset as you can't go further with the setup if you don't, it's in the FAQ. Does this work perhaps? No worries. Any suggestion is much appreciated.
I might miss out something important. Thanks anyway. The other thing that occurs to me is there must be a service menu for the technicians and it most likely has a factory defaults reset option. Even if there's only a local Sony agent they should have access to that information.
I wonder why support hasn't considered that option? TBH I'm surprised it is so hard for support to be able to instruct you on how to reset to factory defaults in this case You are absolutely right, Ian.
That's why the problem just stuck there. The Sony technician just came and gone. He tried to update software via a USB drive. TV showed I have the latest software. I told him that would be the case if attempted to do the update again. Is there no technical support that can do better than this? There was a procedure above to get the not sure it was for these models TV to update even if the firmware was up to date, did you see that?
There should also be a firmware avaialable, possibly via support, that will reset the device to factory defaults during install along with a procedure to install it even when the TV is up to date, it's not that hard with Android, as we can see with phones. Yes, I know that. The procedure is for older models of Sony Google TV. Correct me if I am wrong. I was talking about forcing a firmware update not the reset to factory defaults, which is as we're saying, probably what's needed.
I did not notice they had just released a new firmware 30th Oct so downloading that on USB might have worked. But by the time I noticed, I was already in the middle of doing the USB update as per above link on a previous firmware I'd downloaded earlier.
Hopefully this helps someone out there. Contactied Sony Support by phone. They e-mailed me the following: Thank you for contacting Sony support. Kindly follow the below steps. And then see if the update process will start as intended.
Followed the instructions and updated no problems. Hope this helps. Just a shame I now have other problems, the main one in that the TV hdmi with arc isn't working. Also can't get the bluetooth remote paired, can't watch TV some times. I'm still not really happy I wonder if selecting another language would clear the problem, then change back perhaps.
